Welcome to the website of Purdue University's Department of Economics. The Department, located in the Krannert School of Management has a long tradition of excellence in research and teaching. A highly successful group of Economics alumni have established themselves as leaders in the academic community, government service, and business.
Economics faculty members are leaders in their respective fields and provide a wealth of resources for their students. The Economics Department offers both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Students majoring in Economics must complete a Pre-Economics core of courses,
Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, six Economics elective courses, and at least two Specialty Areas outside of Economics. The Department also offers an Economics Honors Program and a Minor in Economics.
The Ph.D. Program in Economics is a four-year direct doctoral program. It is designed to provide a strong quantitative background in economic theory and econometric and statistical methods, in addition to advanced training in a number of specialized fields, including Econometrics, Experimental Economics, Industrial Organization, International Trade, Labor Economics, Mathematical Economics, Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macro and Monetary Economics, Public Economics, and Applied International Economics. The vast majority of students admitted receive financial aid in the form of a graduate assistantship. Such an assistantship requires that the student perform teaching or research duties, depending on departmental needs.
