Confluence 2003 in Ahmedabad, India featured top business schools from around the world competing against each other in a wide variety of business areas. Nearly 90 teams representing over 30 schools were represented at the conference. Some of the teams attending included Wharton, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, MIT, London Business School, and the Indian Institute of Management. Tests and simulation games in Finance, Marketing, IT, Operations, and Strategy were used to discriminate the top teams amongst this vast competition.
This was the first year that Krannert received an invitation to send a team to the conference which has been growing since its inception in 1999. Our Krannert team consisted of Max Ulm, Darris Sherman, and Ryan Ellis. We fared extremely well placing 2nd overall among the North American programs and 7th among all teams in the operations management area.
This competition allowed us to gain insight into international business, gauge our skills against other top MBA programs, and expose the Krannert name to business and academic leaders including executives from Shell, McKinsey, and TATA. We were also able to interact with MBA candidates from different backgrounds and experience some of the local environment and culture.
In addition to the competition and the speakers we participated in a panel on NDTV’s “We the People” Show. This is a weekly public affairs program on India’s leading cable new network. During the hour program, we discussed globalization affect on India with leading business people, scholars and other students. The discussion was lively and really helped to increase our understanding on the global implications of business.
