PhD Alumni

1977
Jerome Adams has been named senior vice president of administration with BMC Software Inc., in Houston, Texas. He is a former general manager of corporate services for Shell Oil Company and was a member of its executive leadership team. Prior to joining Shell, he worked at USF&G Insurance Corporation as vice president of organizational development compensation and benefits.

Masters Alumni

1963 - 40th Anniversary Year
V. Bruce Stockdell, MSIA, is the author of Secret Shadows of Yesterday, a book about his clandestine intelligence work for the U.S. Air Force. Born in rural southern Indiana, he decided early to be an engineer and pilot. His long military career began in U.S. Army field artillery and then Field Artillery Officer Candidate School (OCS). He was accepted into flight training, fought in three wars, earned a BS in air transportation engineering and an MSIA from Purdue, and then began field collection for the Air Force Air Technical Intelligence Program. He retired from the Air Force in 1975, and was given clearance from the government to write the book.   

1976
Thomas A. Vining, MSM, has been named vice president, technology and procurement, for Whirlpool Mexico. He will lead technology development for laundry, refrigeration, and cook-ing products with a strong focus on bringing additional innovation to the Mexico product platform, and will work closely with the global product development groups in the corporate technology organization and with the manufacturing leadership within North America to ensure global and regional alignment while leveraging technology to support Whirlpool Mexico, the company’s most recently launched business in North America.

Vining’s most recent position was vice president, special projects, NAR, with responsibility for a series of restructuring studies and subsequent implementation plans within various manufacturing operations.

1979
Kenneth R. Woolling Jr., MSM, is an attorney in Indianapolis. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to the bar in both Indiana and Illinois.

Eric L. "Rick" Childs, MSM, has been elected partner in Crowe, Chizek and Company LLP, a top 10 U.S. public accounting and consulting firm.

1996
Cindy Cox, MSHRM, has been promoted to director (executive) of Shared HR Services for Pratt & Whitney.

2001
Stefan U. Hegner, MBA, writes: "On June 2, our son Julius Augustin Hegner was born at our home in Loehne, Germany. Both child and mom are fine. Just daddy is a bit stressed out."

2002
Daniel Czerwonky, MSIA, writes: "I have accepted a job with Wabash National Corporation in Lafayette, Ind. My title is accounting project coordinator."

Richard L. Winn, BS (IND ECON), is a national sales manager with Eterni-Tee, maker of the first patented pivotal golf tee in the U.S. He and his wife, Jean (CFS ‘62), live in Pleasant Garden, N.C.

1972
Dennis E. Grable, BSIM, was promoted to managing director of Delphi Thermal Systems-South America operations in Brazil, effective January 1, 2002.

Mark Hildebrand, BSIM, has been re-elected as chief executive officer of Crowe Chizek and Company LLP, the 8th largest accounting and consulting firm in the country. He was first elected as the firm’s CEO in 1999. His second four-year term begins April 1, 2003. He began his career with Crowe Chizek in 1973 as staff consultant and later led the firm’s Systems Consulting Group as its managing executive.

15th Anniversary Year
James P. Ziliak, BS (ECON), is a professor in the University of Kentucky Department of Economics in Lexington. He was recently appointed holder of the Gatton Chair in Microeconomics and is a founding director of the UK Center for Poverty Research.

1989
Lawyer L. Burks III, BSIM, writes: "On August 1, I was promoted to director of marketing for the Pechiney Plastic Packing Inc., $350 MM Food Flexible Packaging Business Unit in Chicago."

1992
Bryon Buck, BSIM, is a dispatcher with Penske Logistics in Pendergrass, Ga. He has a new daughter, Mary Katelyn, born March 8, 2002.

1993 - 10th Anniversary Year
Jill (Fera) Winkelman, BSM, is region manager for coastal Georgia, overseeing the Georgia Tech Economic Development Institute’s regional offices in Brunswick and Savannah. She joined the Savannah office in 1999 as a project manager. She formerly worked as an independent consultant and as a manager for two major automotive suppliers in the areas of quality, production, and product development. Currently, she serves as vice-chair for the Greater Savannah chapter of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and is an ISO 9000 lead auditor. She is also a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA). Her current interests include lean enterprise techniques and quality.

1996
Amanda (Brandt) Smiley, BSM, writes: "My husband, Rick, and I would like to announce the birth of our first child, Kaitlyn Jane, on August 14, 2002."

1997
William Anthony, BSM, is a plant manager with Sonoco Products Company in Tulsa, Okla.

Donald J. Blume, BSM, is a territory manager with Telmark LLC in Lebanon, Ind. He writes: "I got married June 1, 2002, to Jill Stewart from Muncie, Ind. Just elected to the Lebanon Educational Foundation board of directors."

2001
Judson H. West III, BS (ACCT), is a project coordinator with Shiel Sexton in Indianapolis. He and Heather McCracken (Pharmacy 2001) were married October 20, 2001.

2002
Joe Flores, BSM, writes: "I am just completing an internship for Alan Taylor Communications (ATC), a sports public relations and marketing firm on 34th Street in NYC. It was always my dream to work in sports and entertainment and I hope to apply my management knowledge in the future by managing accounts in sports PR. I got this opportunity when Kevin Sullivan [BSM ’80] of NBC Sports was guest speaker at the MGMT 401 Executive Forum. He and I hit it off pretty well, and we remained in touch for several months until just after the Salt Lake Olympics, when he contacted me with the prospect of PR for ATC. In order to learn more about public relations, I took an unpaid internship with ATC." He received an offer for a full-time position.

In Memoriam - 2000

Hiroto Moriya, MSM ’00, died in June. He was a manager at GE Medical Systems-Japan.
