 Financial Aid

To apply for Financial Aid, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Those graduate students with a complete file should begin receiving Purdue Financial Aid Eligibility Notices in June of each year from the Purdue University Division of Financial Aid. Click here to view a typical student budget.

Four types of financial assistance are available: Stafford loans, graduate assistantships, graduate awards and counselor positions. For more information, see the descriptions below.

Any questions regarding Financial Aid should be directed to Purdue University's Division of Financial Aid.

Stafford Loans
Description: These loans are available for graduate studies and are guaranteed by the federal government. The current subsidized Stafford Loan limit is $8,500 and is based on your cost of education and your previous assets/income as reported on the FAFSA. You may be eligible for additional loan amounts of up to a maximum of $10,000 through the unsubsidized Stafford Loan Program, based on similar criteria.
Availability: Stafford Loans are available to U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens (see the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for details). All Stafford Loan applications are processed by the Purdue University Division of Financial Aid.

Graduate Awards
Description: Graduate awards are awarded on the basis of academic merit and other criteria that may be specified by the sponsoring organization. Some awards are restricted to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants who are identified as award candidates during the admissions review process will be invited to campus, upon admission, to further assess their eligibility for an award.
Availability: Graduate awards are awarded to first-year students only.

Graduate Assistantships (click to view available assistantships)
Description: Graduate assistantships within the Krannert Graduate School of Management are traditionally awarded to second-year students. This gives students the chance to earn a monthly stipend and tuition remittance as well as the opportunity to showcase their capabilities to the Krannert faculty and staff. Some students secure graduate assistantships outside of the School of Management, based upon their special skills and expertise. These assistantship opportunities outside of Krannert are not advertised and are obtained through an individual job search.

Resident Assistants (Counselorships)
Description: Counselors supervise 50 - 75 undergraduates, which means they should be good listeners and willing to handle student problems. They do not, however, have to be trained counselors.

Hours: Residence hall counselors are on duty in their halls a minimum of four evenings per week including weekends, plus select vacation periods when duties are required.

Availability: Each year, several Krannert master's students serve as residence hall counselors within the Purdue Residence Halls system. Counselor positions provide for room and board, a small stipend for books, and a partial tuition and fee remission. All students - first-year, MSIA, international, and continuing students - are eligible to apply for these jobs.

Awards: The exact value of a counselor position depends on your residency status and the amount of tuition and fee remission established by Purdue Board of Trustee action. For the 2006-2007 academic year, Resident Assistant staff will receive remuneration consisting of a room in their assigned residence hall, a meal plan, an annual stipend (amount varies for Staff Residents), and remission of university fees that is equal to the tuition rate for in-state residents. Any additional fee or tuition (including tuition for out of state/international students) will be the individual student's responsibility.

For Fall 2006: Apply online after September. Deadline of January 2007. Interviews conducted Spring 2007.
