The International Business Challenge is an annual undergraduate business case competition held each fall at the University of Texas at Austin. Twenty universities compete in the event with teams consisting of four students. They are given a case depicting contemporary real-world problems confronted by a modern business firm. The students will have three days to prepare a solution. UMCA bases the case on a major company that will bring representatives to judge in the competition. The teams will present their solution to the "client," a panel of distinguished judges from the case company, the sponsor company, and other members of the business community. |

Team of 3-4 undergraduates compete here at Purdue for prize money of $550-1200. The case this year is about Starbucks and will be given out a week ahead of the competition. To register your team, visit www.gscmi.org. This competition is open to all majors and may include industrial engineering students. Send your resumes as well. You will be presenting to business and industry leaders from Starbucks, Ford, E& J Gallo Winery, Phillip Morris, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, IRMCO and more. Students who register a team may attend the conference free.

Investment Management Research Essay Competition

The goals of this competition are to promote:
- greater interest in economics and finance as a subject for advanced study and as the basis for a career
- greater understanding of the investment process and investment strategies
- enhanced research, reporting and critical thinking skills.
Submitted research essays are encouraged to focus on a practical aspect of the investment management industry and practice, and should contain empirical analyses as part of the research. Research essay topics can include, but are not limited to:
- definition of an actual, implementable investment or trading strategy along with empirical tests demonstrating its viability
- a critique of current investment industry advice for individuals
- an examination of investment strategies - their pros, cons, and suggestions for improvement
- an analysis of applications of modern portfolio theory in practice
- the occurrence of market efficiency anomalies and strategies for exploiting them

This highly interactive program features practical tips and advice from some of the best entrepreneurs
and investors in Indiana, as well as renowned business coach Bill Joos, Principal at Silicon Valley-based
Go to Market Consulting.
The Bootcamp teaches students the art and science of creating and managing a high growth venture.
Joos will put participants through the paces of business positioning, refining the “elevator pitch,” and
avoiding the most common business planning mistakes.
The program will conclude with interactive round tables at dinner where groups of students will have the
opportunity to get feedback on their big idea as well as network with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists.
The dinner will also provide an opportunity for 10-15 students to pitch their big idea and receive
immediate and candid feedback from a panel of investors. The top pitches will win $1,000, $500, or $250. |

All Krannert undergraduate students are invited to participate in a management case challenge hosted by the Undergraduate Management Communication Center (UMCC) each spring. Registered teams of 3-4 students are provided a case study and asked to develop solutions to the issues at hand. Each team must have at least one freshman or sophomore member.
Presentations are judged on appropriate application of business principles, creativity and innovative thinking, and presentation delivery. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three teams. |

University Collaboration Entrepreneur Challenge. Twenty-five undergraduate senior students and five faculty members from the Indiana Venture Center’s five partner universities converge in a two-day collaborative competition to provide the students and faculty with an elite experience of creating investor pitches for entrepreneurial companies.

Each fall, the rivalry continues between the Kelley School of Business and the Krannert School of Management. Sixteen students in four teams compete from each school for bragging rights and the prize of $1000. The event takes place over a Friday and Saturday and is organized by School of Management Council (SMC). |
